Most people know of the usual medical alert systems that have been around for some time. These life alert systems allow the user to press a button which then sends a signal to a transponder located in the house. By activating the system, a call is then placed to emergency services for assistance to be provided. However, is some extreme situations, an elderly person may fall and become unconscious, thus not having the ability to press the button to activate the alert. They may also suffer a stroke and be incapacitated and not be able to press the relevant button to trigger the system. So the newer medical alert systems now include an auto fall detector than can actually be the difference between life and death. Even more elaborate systems will provide true fault detection for all types of falls. When an elderly person falls, sometime they do so without a large jar, thus not disturbing the fall alert system. The newer and more detailed medical alert systems provide for functionality whereby a more subtle fall will also trigger the alert. These types of systems will be able to detect the position of the medical alert device, and also be able to monitor inactivity of the device. The most advanced type of systems also provide for the monitoring of body functions and body temperature to trigger the alert.
